THE BEGINNING
Abilities Unlimited began with one man. Tom Dunn, an adult, had a traumatic brain injury which left him confined to a wheelchair and in the care of his parents.
Tom attended therapy at one of our local hospitals. It is a requirement of these programs that the patients reach certain goals in a particular time frame. Tom did not reach the goals quickly enough and because of this his insurance company refused to pay for more therapy.
His mother called me in desperation because she heard from a physician that we work with people who have disabilities. We started working with Tom immediately. It is characteristic of people with brain injuries to have short-term memory loss. From the time Tom met me he never forgot my name. That was a highlight that I will never forget.
